Alex Gibney Reflection

An interesting point that Gibney made was how it is important to create a sense of time and space wherever you go on a documentary. Having a setting makes the work much more immersive and transports the audience to an actual physical space. Images are also sometimes better at conveying an idea than words.

I also really appreciate Gibney's notes on how real drama is having two people in the right who are arguing each other as opposed to two people who agree. I think that understanding people and their motivations is an incredibly important part of drama and life. If you don't understand why a character is behaving the way they do they are less believable. Likewise, part of understanding a person and loving them is understanding why they do the things they do. Drama is truly sad when you understand both sides of a story but know there is no easy solution because both characters are right.
